Emerald Plate

Four-piece painting, each 60x90x2 cm / mixed media, emeralds and glass on canvas, 2011

Also exhibited at Basel Art Center (Osteuropäische Abstrakte Kunst) in 2015 and at Chateau Rothschild in Reichenau, Austria, in 2016. This piece of art was inspired by the secret of the famous Emerald Tablet and its engraved pattern that was not meant to be seen with the eyes but read with the heart. It would then reveal a message to the viewer. This painting grew out of my desire to create something without thinking about the outcome, without planning.

I let my hands be guided by the invisible inner power. It turned out to be a stunning and very charismatic four-piece painting each panel embedded with approximately one hundred raw emeralds and thousands of little glass elements. To finish what had started so spontaneously, I had to place every emerald and element very carefully, mostly with tweezers, and it all took almost two months.
